Operates a dump truck to transport materials such as asphalt, gravel, and sand; operates controls in truck cab to dump and spread materials on surfaces properly.
Operates combination backhoes, front-end loaders, skid steer & attachments, motor graders, and other specialized equipment for street maintenance.
Oversees and performs proper setup and take down of temporary traffic control.
Performs leaf collection and disposal; operates dump truck and assists with loading leaves on the truck; hauls leaves to the disposal site.
Schedules and performs graffiti removal with power tools or paint overlay.
This position may be assigned to the night shift to support snow and ice operations and emergency situations during the snow season as determined by management.

Inspects the work of the crew for accuracy and see that any deficiencies are rectified.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service.
Provides orientation to new full-time employees, workforce development, and apprentice candidates to the processes, unified work rules, policy, and procedures of performing the work; provides guidance to co-workers on unusual or difficult work problems; meets with supervisor periodically to assess co-workers’ performance.
Ability to use two-way radios, mobile telephones, personal computers, cameras, tablets, and any other electronic devices frequently used to communicate and store data.

SUPERVISION:
Work is performed under the direction of the Supervisor or Management. Assignments are verbal or in writing, describing what needs to be accomplished with the employee responsible for ensuring the personnel and equipment are available. The Crew Leader directs and participates in the work of co-workers in the same or lower-level classifications. Work is reviewed through discussion of crew activities and by on-site inspection of the Supervisor. Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, Unified Work Rules, Union Contract, Personnel Rules and OSHA. The employee has regular contact with other City employees to schedule work and equipment. NATURE OF WORK:
This is a professional position requiring the performance of a variety of civil engineering and project management tasks for city infrastructure improvement projects including multimodal transportation, utilities, and park amenities. Tasks include completion of engineering challenge studies, preparation of contract documents (plans and specifications), cost estimating, field inspection, field reports, approval of contractor pay estimates, and project closeout tasks. This position may also be responsible for the preparation of requests for qualifications and requests for proposals, as well as hiring and supervision of consulting firms for the purpose of planning, design and construction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
?Plans, designs, and directs construction and maintenance of civil site design, multimodal transportation, traffic calming, parking lots, alleys, water systems, and park amenities.
?Prepares contract drawings utilizing engineering drawing software.
?Prepares contract technical specifications in compliance with Illinois Department of Transportation and other industry standards.
?Prepares Division 0 and Division 1 in compliance with City of Evanston gu...idelines and policies.
?Prepares engineering cost estimates for capital improvement projects.
?Understands requirements of external agencies, such as the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.
?Prepares permit applications and applies for permits in support of City infrastructure projects from the City of Evanston and from outside agencies,
?Works within the city of Evanston purchasing policies to procure engineering/contractor services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
?Must possess a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or similar engineering discipline.
